What have we been doing you ask???

Franco & I have been wanting to tear out our carpet and yucky kitchen floor and put in wood flooring ever since we moved in this house 1 1/2 years ago. We finally are doing it but oh what a roller coaster this has been. Here is my story.

Franco took Friday off of work so we left in the morning to head to Home Depot to check out flooring. We found some we liked at Home Depot in our price range, however Franco decided to he wanted to check out IKEA and see what colors they had so we left Home Depot and drove to Ikea(40 minutes away). Well, at IKEA Franco found the color he absolutely loved, which was an Antique Oak. Me, i decided to be quiet about the color I liked because this was not a fight i was wanting to get into, so we left IKEA and headed home. When we got home Franco began to go to work: (PIC BELOW)

After a few hours into it and not even one row complete Franco went nuts. He was so frustrated he said the wood was a piece of poo so we loaded it all back up and took that long drive back to IKEA to return it. On our way home we stopped at Lowes and another Home Depot to check out their selection. We decided on Home Depot wood & price, purchased it, and headed home. By now it was like 8 pm and Franco went to work again. By 9pm Franco was done, meaning had enough with again not even the first row complete. He said he was finished putting in the floor and he was taking it all back. So he went upstairs took a bath and some much needed alone time. (PIC #2 BELOW)

Saturday morning comes along and he decides he will try it again, and he finally agreed to help from Jimmy, a friend of ours in our ward. After only like 15 minutes of Jimmy here Saturday morning, no luck. Franco at this point was beyond frustrated and told me he was going to put the carpet back in end of story and off he drove to Home Depot to return the second set of flooring. (PIC#3 BELOW..once again a barren floor)

After a few hours being gone i get a call from Franco telling me him and Jimmy are going to check out a lumber yard that has great deals on flooring. A few hours after that they return yet again with wood flooring #3. Jimmy was so much help they actually got 2 rows complete when Franco had had it yet again. yes, yes yes, you can all scream here, or laugh, or cry. I was not quite sure what to do myself. I had never seen Franco like this ever. Let me just add this on his behalf. Work is extremely stressful. This has been going on now for over a month. how stressful you ask..well Friday night he was seriously talking non-stop in his sleep, he was helping customers with their satellite connections. At first when i woke up i thought he was on a call, because yes he is on-call 24/7 and we do get the occasional call late late hours. So after about 20 minutes i realize that he is not on the phone just going through all the steps with an imaginary customer about his satellite problems. At that point i knew that work was is a little more then stressful, then add all this and i can now positively say I think my husband is about to have a break-down. But back to my story.

So, i jump in to help Jimmy and we accomplish some. By now it was like 4 hours into the project and Jimmy had to head out. Him and Franco decided to go shooting (which i was not going to tell Franco no way) So my wonderful brother in law AJ came down with Kristy. Kristy fed and entertained Andrew while AJ and I got several more rows complete, then AJ kicked me out and proceeded to do the rest himself. Now..it is not done but holy cow AJ did tons. I can not say Thank you enough to him, and also Jimmy for telling Franco to breathe and talking him into getting me a floor instead of nothing there for who knows how long.

So today is Sunday, and since it is the sabbath obviously we are not working on it, but tomorrow another friend is coming over and I am sure i will be helping after a while, which is fine by me. I hope to be able to post the finish product of room number 1..yes yes yes...we still need to do the kitchen which connects to my upstairs living room!!! Yipeee!!!

On the last note, our electricity just came back on. We are having a major rain storm and our power went out early this afternoon and came back on a few minutes ago, which we be like 9:30 pm. Oh..if only we could get through this holiday weekend on a happy note.

The floor looks great! Wood flooring just looks so nice to me, now seeing how easy it was, ahem, I'm not as intimidated by it as I was before.Aj was planning on coming back tomorrow to finish it.I didn't know your power was out?Crazy weather huh!Except up here as soon as the first winds came they brought the sweet smell of the sewage plant with them, aj kept asking me if I farted. It's the sewer I swear!

It looks good so far, you are lucky that you still had your computer to play with since the power was out. It went out just before we went to my Brothers house for dinner and we got home and didn't know what to do, still out. Good thing I didn't live as a pioneer, I didn't know what to do in the dark:)
